Blidworth: 1924/26 to 1989

Work on the shaft was started in August 1923, with the top hard seam reached in January 1926 at a depth of 721yds. Seams were found with a coal thickness of 4ft. Sadly for the community the colliery finally closed on 1st march 1989 as the colliery at Blidworth was most definitely the hub of the village. Miners going to work in the rich coal seams under the ground, mainly to feed and clothe their families and thinking it was an industry for ever.
