High Park: 1854/60 to 1950

highparkAlso known as Moorgreen No 3 and was sunk in 1854. It is thought that High Park was the first deep mine in this area. They reached a seam in at a depth of 182 metres after much difficulty due to water and it has been on record that they even had to drain the nearby Moorgreen Reservoir. The mine continued to work the Top Hard, Deep Hard and Abbey and eventually merged with neighbouring Moorgreen pit.
